(SOUTHFIELD, MICH.) Dallas Griffin, an 11 year-old student at the Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies (FLICS) school in Detroit, Michigan was selected based upon his academic achievements; which includes a perfect 4.0 grade point average to represent his school in the 2012 Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, DC from July 22-27, 2012.

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) offers mature, high-achieving middle school students the opportunity to learn about leadership by studying the leaders of the past and by focusing on social advocacy to make a positive impact in their homes and communities. Each session is designed to educate, inspire, and motivate students by giving them the confidence and leadership skills that will take them through high school and beyond.

“I’m so excited about learning more about the Japanese language and culture. With this leadership conference I can get the knowledge I’ll need in the future to become the good educated young man I strive to be” says Dallas.

The JrNYLC curriculum was developed by Dr. Marguerite Regan, a former high school teacher and social science department chairperson with a doctorate in political science from Purdue University.

Griffin was nominated for the conference by his teacher Mr. Kevin Parish, who recognized Dallas as one of a select group of students with scholastic merit, maturity and strength of character to represent the Foreign Language Immersion School at this unique leadership program for exceptional middle school students.

According to Dallas’ mother Deitra Griffin, “We are so proud of our son. He works hard and he’s a very good son. I love his thirst for knowledge. As parents we work hard to provide for our child. Dallas makes that task so much easier to endure.”

After Dallas Griffin successfully completes the conference in Washington, DC he will receive an official Junior National Young Leaders Conference Certificate of Merit.
